For Hardwood and Pine

INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS
NOGBOSS?

NOGBOSS is designed to make installing noggins in hardwood deck framing faster, easier, and more consistent. Instead of changing between multiple drill bits for every fixing point, NOGBOSS combines the key pre-drilling steps into one streamlined process.

When installing a 100mm bugle head batten screw, the traditional method requires drilling a pilot hole into the noggin, changing bits to create a clearance hole through the joist, and then changing bits again to countersink the face of the joist so the screw head finishes flush. NOGBOSS removes that hassle by completing all three functions in one smooth motion.

Step By Step Guide

STEP ONE

Position the NOGBOSS

Place the tip of the bit on your marked fixing point where the screw will pass through the joist and into the noggin. Make sure your timber is aligned correctly and your drill is held square to the surface for the cleanest result.

1
STEP TWO

Drill in One Motion

Begin drilling steadily through the joist and into the noggin. As the bit moves through the timber, NOGBOSS performs three actions at once: it drills the pilot hole into the noggin, creates the clearance hole through the joist, and countersinks the top of the joist for the screw head. Retract drill frequently to remove timber swarf

2
STEP THREE

Drive the Screw

Once the hole is prepared, remove the bit and insert your 100mm bugle head batten screw. With the hole already prepped, the screw can drive in more smoothly and finish flush in the countersunk opening. 3 step process removes timber where needed for the screw to work to its full potential. It's magic for pine as well as hardwood

3
STEP FOUR

Repeat the Process Faster

Because NOGBOSS removes the need to change drill bits multiple times, you can move from fixing point to fixing point much faster. This helps reduce downtime, improve consistency, and take the frustration out of repetitive pre-drilling work.

Best Practice Tips

  • Keep the drill square to the joist
  • Apply steady, even pressure while drilling
  • Make sure the timber is clamped or fixed in position before drilling
  • Frequent retraction to remove timber swarf
  • Although it can be used in an impact driver, it is most optimised when used in a drill driver
  • Use the correct 100mm bugle head batten screw
  • Check the countersink depth before repetitive installs if working with varying timber density
  • Sappy/green timber? No worries! Add a spray of CFC to the drill bit before drilling to prevent sap from clogging the flutes
